TASTING NOTES
Ponting First Sauvignon Blanc Session 2020, 750ml Bottle 13.5%
Vintage
2020 was a challenging vintage in the Adelaide Hills. Although yields were low, quality was exceptional with good flavour and colour.
Wine
Fruit for the First Session Sauvignon Blanc was machine-harvested in the early hours of the morning then crushed and drained through the press to retain the fresh, bright flavours. Clarified juice fermented with two aromatic yeast strains to enhance the Adelaide Hills sauvignon blanc varietal characters. A fresh and floral Sauvignon Blanc with a zesty passion fruit and grapefruit nose, the mid palate is wonderfully textured with citrus pith and a long crisp palate. A perfect starter for a drink in the sun with friends.
Ponting The Pinnacle McLaren Vale Shiraz 2017, 750ml Bottle 14.5%
Vintage
2017 was a late and wet vintage in McLaren Vale. Following on from a wet winter, spring and summer were hot, with late budburst. The vines ripened throughout February and harvest began in March. The vines held large canopies with average yields. Above average rainfall in winter led to elegant, refined and delicate fruit.
Wine
Fermented in traditional open fermenters and following pressing, finished their fermentation in oak; approximately 80% was French and the balance American, 35% of which was new oak. Vineyard parcels were kept separate during fermentation and maturation and were blended three months prior to bottling. Distinctive McLaren Vale characteristics shine through The Pinnacle. Sweet, soft, warm tannins whilst on the palate is rich berry fruits, black pepper, nutmeg and cloves. A seriously powerful Shiraz paying homage not only to McLaren Vale but to the pinnacle of the cricketing world, the Ashes.
Ponting Close of Play Cabernet Sauvignon 2018, 750ml Bottle 14%
Vintage
The 2018 Langhorne Creek vintage was excellent. Winter had above average rainfall, which reduced as the spring months wore on. Summer was reasonably dry and hot, with a couple of downpours helping canopy maintenance. Temperatures were warmer than average, however, the summer breeze provided cool nights allowing flavour development. Cabernet Sauvignon was particularly strong, with moderate yields and excellent quality.
Wine
Fruit for Close of Play was destemmed and crushed into 5-tonne open fermenters. The wine underwent maceration for 8-11 days and was then pressed straight into oak, a 30% new French and 5% American combination, to complete malolactic fermentation. Close of Play is a wine of great character and style showing generous red berry fruits with touches of mint and clove. The palate has great depth, is soft, silky and wonderfully balanced. The perfect wine worth sharing with family and friends as a ‘finale’ at any get together.

Fluffy, lush, silky and smooth. A far-reaching, gossamer-like hop complexity with soft florets of tangerine, lime, tropical fruit and coconut. One Drop Brewing’s ‘Four Ways of Oat®’ processing, together with creamy Australian lactose, help to take the density of feel and flavour to new heights. Softest of water and a novel yeast provide the upmost cushy comfort. All coalesce into the first version of our exploration series of this style, and the lofty heights of where the fluff can go. Layers upon layers of creamy smooth mango and sultry ripe naval orange make for the most insatiable cloud drinking experience one could hope to float across.
