Eden Brewery Phoenix D Kotbusser

I have to say I had never tried a Kotbusser before sampling this beauty made by Eden Brewery in Mittagong, NSW. Owners and brewers, Deb and Jacob say this is a pretty rare German beer style, so I was looking forward to trying this specialty brew, especially with their Aussie spin on it.

Perfect on a cool day, the first sip was a treat with an instant hit of honey and molasses. I would highly recommend you pour this into a glass as the gorgeous rich copper colour should not be missed.

Phoneix D is an incredibly smooth beer (coming at 5% abv), with a finish that accentuates the sweetness from the honey but is also crisp and slightly dry. With only a handful of breweries around the world still making this style, its great to see one of our Aussie counterparts going out on a limb and showcasing their take on this rare beer style. I’m definitely a convert.

Deb and Jacob suggest pairing it with a schnitty, bratwurst or pretzels. Enjoy!
