TASTING NOTES

Originally brewed for the West Coast IPA Challenge in 2013, the name of this beer wasn’t always planned to be so grotesque. You see… Liberty had penned the name “Yakima Kitchen Sink” as it had pretty much every hop variety they could get from the USA thrown in. However, whilst filling the kegs for this esteemed competition, a song came on Spotify and made the task so much more enjoyable that they decided to change the name. But let’s face it: Yakima Kitchen Sink was a bit rubbish really!

BREWERY SNAPSHOT

The story of Liberty goes back all the way to when they became dissatisfied by what offerings New Zealand had in terms of beer. In particular: Flavour in Beer. Living out in West Auckland there was not a lot to offer: The local licensing trust controlled what one was able to buy in the local outlets. They had tried all the imported stuff… and this led them to believe that it was possible that there was more to beer than flavourless fizzy lager.

DID YOU KNOW?

Dominic Kelly from Hashigo Zake helped out by offering Liberty a tap to put their beer on. He was such a fan of their beer “Summ!t” (brewed with Liberty’s good friends Hallertau back in 2009) that he couldn’t see any risks by offering their beer to his customers.
